Amish Made Hard Wood Furniture/Rocking Chair/Rockers

I would like to take some time to tell you about hand made Amish Furniture. I live in a small town in Western Pennsylvania that has a high population of Amish Families. The Amish of this area are of the old order. Unlike some of the other Amish who have given in to "some" of our modern ways the Amish here have not. They are a wonderful group of people who work hard from daylight to dark at farming which isstill all done with horses or at another business or trade which usually involves building and wood working.
I have had the pleasure of watching my Amish neighbor build the most beautiful furniture from Oak and Cherry. I have seen the time, energy and thought that goes into each and every piece that he makes. He started out building Bent Arm style Rocking Chairs, then a customer asked if he could possibly make one with flat arms so she could lay a tray across it. He set out to acgeodate her and now makes both styles. He was then asked if he had any foot stools to go with his chairs. Within days he had his plans laid out and made a matching foot stool. Then came the glider rockers andswivel glider rockers and matching gliding ottomans. Eventually a customer asked for an end table to match. Each time somebody asked for something different he would try to find a way to make it for them.
The Amish hereuse no electric tools because they have no electricity, they have no running water, no automobiles they travel by horse and buggy, and haveno telephones. So as you can see from the start its not easy or convienent to build his furniture.
He uses the best Oak and Cherry Wood, he cuts each piece by hand, places the pieces that need shaped or bent into hand made vise type pieces of wood. Steams them with fire and hot water. Then they are left to dry in the shape needed. Each piece is sanded to perfection by hand, nailed together with brass nails and hand stained. The work that goes into each piece of furniture is amazing. Each one is made with care and quality. He then signs and dates the bottom of each piece he makes. I have heard customers gee in his shop and sit in one of his chairs and say it feels like you made this just for me!! It truly is the most gefortable chair and well built chair that you will ever find.
I am proud to offer these chairs on okay for the world to see and welgee any questions that anyone has on how they are built. I have personally seen the hard work, prideand time that goes into each piece he builds. I don't just say how wonderful they are justto sell a chair, I only sell the chairs because they are that wonderful!!
If you're interested in a chair please take time to review my feedback and read all the gements that previous buyers have given, starting in January of 06. I print off all the emails that I receive from buyers after their chair arrives and share them with my neighbor. The gepliments he receives on the quality, gefort and craftsmanship are never short on kind words. One customer was so impressed shetraveled here to meet him and see his small shop and learn more of the Amish way of life.
If you have found this information helpful or just enjoyed the read, please take timeto place your opinion below. Thanks for Looking!!
