Toner Shelf Life?

How long does HP LaserJet toner really last? Older HP printer manuals say is "For best results, always use a Toner Cartridge before the expiration date stamped on the Toner Cartridge's box" and "The shelf life of a cartridge in an unopened package is approximately 2.5 years." If you're using one of these older printers, like a 4000, 4050 or 4100, and shopping for toner on okay, you'll be happy to know that this policy has been updated. The toner itself remains unchanged, but the new policy now reflects how long it actually lasts. HP has removed the expiration date previously featured on HP LaserJet cartridge packaging. The former expiration date had no correlation to the use or warranty of the HP LaserJet cartridge. The code that is now shown on newer boxes is intended for HP internal tracking only. Thus, when shopping for toner, there's no need to worry about a date on the box.
